Authorized Digital Sellers for Apps (App-ads.txt) is a mechanism that protects you from inventory fraud, giving you better control over your inventory. Published by the IAB Tech Lab in March 2019, it's a method used to declare the ad tech vendors that have legitimate access to selling your in-app inventory. The result is a public record of Authorized Digital Sellers, that can be crawled by buyers, making it harder for bad actors to profit from selling counterfeit inventory.
Follow the instructions below to add InMobi as an authorized seller of your inventory:
If you have unique developer URLs for your apps, ensure that app-ads.txt file is implemented on all the developer URLs.
Create the App-ads.txt File: After you add the website URL to app stores, create a .txt file and name it as app-ads.txt. Ensure that the file is added to the root domain of your website. For example, https://publisher.com/app-ads.txt.
Add InMobi Entries: To ease implementation, we have built the strings you need to add to your app-ads.txt file to declare InMobi and other strategic intermediaries as authorized sellers.
Follow the instructions below to copy or download the list of entries from the InMobi Publisher Dashboard.
Please note that if you missed completing your KYC details when entering your Finance details, you will be unable to add our curated list of sellers to your app-ads.txt file.
Here's a breakdown of the different fields in an app-ads.txt file:
Example: ‘inmobi.com,74dcd2c4fa2d401cb74bbb9c124a268c, DIRECT,83e75a7ae333ca9d’
IAB Field Name |
Description |
Example |
Domain Name of the Advertising System (mandatory) |
The domain name of the system to which bidders connect. |
inmobi.com |
Seller Account ID |
The Seller Account ID and TAG ID that needs to go with the InMobi entry. |
74dcd2c4fa2d401cb74bbb9c124a268c |
Type of Account/Relationship (mandatory) |
DIRECT: The publisher directly controls the account in Field 2 on the system in Field 1. |
DIRECT |
Certification Authority ID (Optional but recommended) |
An ID that uniquely identifies the system in Field 1 within a certification authority. |
83e75a7ae333ca9d |
The IAB Tech Lab specifies that DSPs should treat the ‘Type of Account/Relationship’ field as case insensitive when interpreting data. InMobi recommends that the value in this field be typed in all capital letters.
After completing the implementation process, the next step is to track your verification status for app-ads.txt. This can be found under the Verification Status sub-tab within the My Account Manage App-ads.txt section. Below are three possible statuses that reflect in the tab:
After launching App-ads.txt, the IAB Tech Lab released sellers.json, an initiative to further increase the transparency in the mobile programmatic ecosystem. While app-ads.txt allows publishers to declare authorized sellers, sellers.json is a mechanism by which SSPs and exchanges list out the inventory they can sell.
It is a publicly hosted JSON file that helps buyers identify the direct sellers and intermediaries involved in every bid request. For example, consider a buyer being offered inventory from the XYZ app via an exchange called ABC exchange. If the buyer wants to verify this bid request, they can check if the app's inventory has been listed on abcexchange.com/sellers.json.
InMobi has been one of the front runners in promoting supply chain transparency by supporting the sellers.json initiative back in 2019 (for more information, see InMobi Officially Releases Its Sellers.Json File). We are committed to protecting your inventory from unauthorized reselling by intermediaries. You can access our sellers.json file here.
If you have entered your website URL while setting up your payment information, InMobi automatically fetches the domain name and adds it to InMobi’s sellers.json file.
To view your sellers.json verification status, follow the instructions below.
If you are yet to complete your KYC details, you will be unable to proceed with sellers.json and your status will be Not Verified.
